What does it mean to be great?

Martin Luther King Jr. was perhaps one of the greatest people who ever lived. There is an amazing speech that MLK once gave on the idea greatness. In this speech he shared that in order to be great, one must be a servant.

I think this idea of greatness or significance is starting to seep into the American fabric on a deeper level than ever before. Now we are starting to see company after company find ways to share love with others through their brand. I believe that much of this behavior is brought about by a deep rooted desire to matter in the world. A desire to be great.

What Snickers and Hamburger Helper are doing matters. They have leveraged their mighty brands to team up with Feeding America to get food to people who are in need. They are leaving a footprint of greatness.

The greatness of any individual, company, church, or organization will not be wrapped up in how much money they make, how many widgets they sold, or how many people they got to attend. Their greatness will be determined by what they did for others.
